SPF Guide

How much time will you spend soaking up the sunshine?
Think about the glorious day ahead. Will it be hours of lounging on a sun bed, or a quick brisk walk in the park? However you plan to make the most of the sunshine, try and add up the exact number of minutes that your skin will be exposed. Don’t forget to add the time that you’ll be in the shade, when the sun’s harmful rays can still reach you.

The secret to the perfect SPF
Ever wondered which SPF you should really be using? Simply use this equation and find out for yourself…. Take the number of minutes that you’re skin will be exposed (no. 2), and divide this with your skin’s own protection time (no.1). The result is the SPF that YOU should apply, in order to avoid sun burn. If this SPF is not available, then always round up to the next higher one.

Example:
Gemma is skin type 2 and therefore has a protection time of 10 minutes
She plans to spend 3 hours in the sunshine
3 hours = 180 min. 180 min / 10 min = 18 SPF 18
SPF 18 is not available so Gemma should use SPF 20
